This is an ambient light that references classical modular room-divide vocabulary. Each of the self-locking clear Surlyn modules captures as much light as possible. The custom form and texture create intense optical distortion to further blur visuals towards the spaces behind it. The entire curtain is illuminated via a strong LED ribbon on the top where the unit is mounted. Length is adjustable and it’s possible to create custom curves. Conceived to be mounted in a linear organization each module fits itself but also expands to catch and diffuse light. Therefore Botanic Rain can be arrayed in infinite height and length using standard track modules housing a light focusing reflector system to optimize light distribution down and throughout the curtain. Botanic Rain reflects my interest and research in using self repetitive but highly informed and functional modules leading to informal generative designs.
